BabelFish Web App Update — 16.05.2023

We are happy to share some great news! Following the recent issues reported during the BIP-0005 (Emergency Deposit Pause) vote, where certain users encountered difficulties connecting their hardware wallets through browser wallets, we have taken swift action to address this concern.

We are excited to announce that we have successfully implemented direct connectivity for Ledger and Trezor wallets on the BabelFish web app!

This enhancement allows users to seamlessly connect and interact with their Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets for tasks such as converting stablecoins, staking, or participating in Bitocracy. It eliminates the need for a browser wallet as an intermediary, improving security and overall convenience while using our app. By enabling direct support for these devices, we have resolved a critical obstacle that prevented some of our long-term community members from participating in the BIP-0005 vote. Of course, the most popular browser wallets — MetaMask and Liquality — are still fully supported.

In addition, we have provided a link to the latest changelog on our GitHub in the bottom right of our web app. This enables users to stay informed about the latest implemented changes.

Furthermore, we are pleased to inform you that we have fixed the staking duration. It is now possible to stake for the maximal duration until May 2026. Keep in mind that the longer staking period grants greater Voting Power, allowing you to have a stronger voice in the decision-making process.

While staking rewards are on our agenda, our current main focus is on finishing the work on Balancing Curves. Enabling direct connectivity of hardware wallets was also a step towards ensuring that voting on important improvements of the protocol won’t fail due to not reaching quorum, and that all those interested in participating will have the chance to voice their opinion during voting.
